CSK v RR: Power Players

Chennai Super Kings clinched a convincing win over Rajasthan Royals by 64 runs, a pretty one-sided contest to be honest. The Royals were no way near defeating the Kings at their ‘adopted’ home.

With no second thoughts, it’s Chennai’s opener Shane Watson. The ex-Australian cricketer’s masterclass display right at the top helped Chennai Super Kings to put on a total of 204 after being asked to bat first.
Watson’s knock of 109 consisted of nine fours and six sixes.

Suresh Raina‘s comeback innings of 46 off 29 saw nine fours and interestingly, no sixes. He allowed Watson to take his time, to play the anchor role.

Shardul Thakur‘s three overs, 18 runs, two wickets need a mention as well. His caught and bowled to dismiss Binny is probably the best of the tournament so far.

When everybody was a victim of Watson’s brilliance, Shreyas Gopal was making Watson struggle. In fact, he got the better of world’s two best batsmen- Dhoni and Raina.

He picked three wickets, gave away only 20 runs. An economy of five runs per over is outstanding even in fifty overs game.

CSK v RR: Three uncapped, value for money players

When: 20 April 2018, 2000Hrs (IST)

Where: MCA International Stadium, Pune

Team Head to Head

Overall: Matches – 17, Chennai Super Kings won – 11, Rajasthan Royals won – 6

Chennai Super Kings is ready to take on Rajasthan Royals. Both the teams are coming from a loss. CSK lost a close encounter with Punjab while Rajasthan failed to defend the total against KKR.

Both teams have not played their best cricket just yet, but have had moments of individual brilliance. CSK’s two wins were the result of late innings blitzes by Dwayne Bravo and Sam Billings, while Sanju Samson’s contributions have been the standout performance in the for Rajasthan Royals’ two wins.

Here are three value for money players:

Sanju Samson: The pocket dynamo is explosive right from the match one. He finally started playing long innings, and that is something Rajasthan desperately needs.

Shane Watson: He is destructive at the top for CSK. He can roll his arms as well. Though he is expensive, he is worth it.

Ambati Rayudu: Rayudu has been very consistent in IPL 2018, performing in almost all the games. With rumours of Raina being back for today’s game, he is likely to open the batting again for CSK

Here are three uncapped players:

Shreyas Gopal: He was excellent against RCB as he gave away only 22 in his 4 overs while picking up two wickets. He will look to exploit CSK’s weakness against leg spin.

RA Tripathi: He has batted in the middle order in the first few games, but with Short not performing, he might get to open vs CSK.

K Gowtham: He got good points in the last game as he picked up two wickets and a decent cameo with the bat. Will he repeat the same tonight?

KXIP v SRH- Power players

When Gayle Storm hits you, no matter who you are, you will be taken for a toss. Chris Gayle showed why he is the universal boss. You cannot keep him out of the game for so long. He came, He conquered.

I don’t think there are any doubts. It’s the big man Christopher Henry Gayle. He didn’t try to score from ball one. He took his time to settle. Once he got into the groove, he smashed. Also, he was determined to rotate the strike. No many times we have seen Gayle too keen to pick up ones and twos. It was a different, and a special knock from the special man.

Leaving Gayle’s brilliance aside, Andrew Tye’s bowling was excellent as well. He gave nothing away easily. He was on target for most of the deliveries. Giving away just 23 runs, he picked up two wickets. His spell consisted of ten dot balls. Also, Kane Williamson’s fighting fifty needs an appreciation as well. He tried his best to keep Hyderabad on the hunt.

When everybody was taken for a toss by the universal boss, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was incredible. Ten dot balls in a high scoring game show his class as the bowler. He picked a wicket, gave away 25 runs.

Karun Nair’s 31 off 21 had three fours and a six. Gayle and Nair added 85 runs together, a match-winning stand. Also, B Sran’s spell of four overs 22 runs. He did too well to cut the run flow in the power play overs. Blame the drop catches he ended up wicketless.

KXIP vs SRH: Three Best Value for Money and Uncapped Players

KXIP have won both their games at Mohali in IPL 2018 and will look to finish off in style as they move their base from Mohali to Indore. SRH meanwhile are yet to taste defeat in IPL 2018 and have won all the 4 games they have played in Mohali.

SRH are unlikely to change their eleven given their dominant performances. Will KXIP do the same or replace Finch with Miller/Stoinis?

Three money value players

1. KL Rahul– No doubts, he went for bonkers in the auction. Right from the first match, Rahul is consistent and one of the top picks of fantasy

2. R Ashwin– He has scored the most points in IPL 2018 among the bowlers playing this match. He has been contributing with the bat as well which is an added bonus.

3. Mujeeb Ur Rahman– The last match was one of the rare occasions where he did not complete his quota of overs. He has started off the season well and can potentially get you a lot of points against this SRH’s middle order.

Three uncapped players

1. Deepak Hooda– He was instrumental in SRH’s win over MI and has been in good form. He might even get a chance to bowl as SRH don’t have any off-spinners in their eleven.

2. Siddharth Kaul– He will be returning to his home ground and knows the conditions very well. He has been performing consistently and is a safe pick.

3. Mayank Agarwal– He has been in very good form and got off to yet another start against CSK. Will he make a big one today?

KXIP v SRH: Fantasy Tips

When: 18 April 2018, 20.00Hrs (IST)
Where: IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali
Team Head to Head
Overall: Matches – 10, Kings XI Punjab won – 2, Sunrisers Hyderabad won – 8
At the IS Bindra Stadium: Matches – 4, Kings XI Punjab won – 0, Sunrisers Hyderabad won – 4

Two of the underrated captains in this IPL. Nobody would have thought that both the teams will go on to top the points table. Both the captains have led their team from the front, and the players performed accordingly.

At this venue, Hyderabad has never lost to Punjab. It will be interesting to see how much that affects Punjab. Ashwin has shown how good he is in playing the mind games. He laid out plans for every single batter out there and successfully executed it.

Kane Williamson made the absence of David Warner unfelt. Hyderabad is unbeaten so far in the tournament. The bowlers have done the job for the team. They restricted the opponents and laid the platform for the batters.

Shikhar Dhawan is in a terrific form and is loving the responsibility on his shoulders in the absence of Warner. Williamson, as usual, is playing the anchor role.

1. Rashid Khan (SRH)– The prodigy only got better with matches. He holds the key for his team wherever he plays. Things will not be any different here.

2. Shikhar Dhawan (SRH)– The absence of Warner adds more responsibility on him. The team needs his contribution more than any player.

3. Andrew Tye (KXIP)– After an impeccable season in the Big Bash, that earned him a place in the playing XI of the national side, Tye is back to the IPL. One sure shot selection.

4. KL Rahul (KXIP)– His consistent starts at the top gave the edge for Punjab in all the previous matches so far.

RR v KKR: Power Players

The revamped KKR team continues to dominate the tournament as they top the points table right now. Rajasthan after the defeat in the first match, came back well to win two on the trot but today went down as KKR won the match convincingly by seven wickets.

Undoubtedly, Nitesh Rana. The youngster switched roles with Suryakumar Yadav, impresses with his bowling as well. With fewer players, it’s a great opportunity for Rana to showcase his talent, and he does exactly the same. In today’s match, he bowled well to remove both Short and Rahane. Both the players were well settled at that moment. It was an important breakthrough for KKR. Rana bowled two overs, gave away only 11 runs, and picked up two wickets.

More than most of the KKR bowlers who were economical, it was the captain Karthik who outshined everyone with his athletism on the field, quirky captaincy and an unbeaten 42 off 23 to finish off the innings.

Along with Rana, Gowtham is also the best un-capped player of the match. In his four overs, he picked two wickets for just 23 runs.

Though Narine had a rare ‘off day’ with the ball, he coped up with his 35 off 25. After Lynn’s dismissal, KKR needed a partnership to steady the chase. Narine and Uthappa helped the team to recover.

RR v KKR- Fantasy tips

When: 18 April 2018, 2000Hrs (IST)
Where: Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur
Team Head to Head
Matches – 15, Rajasthan Royals won – 9, Kolkata Knight Riders won – 6

After being destroyed by Sunrisers in the season opener, RR bounced back well to grab two wins on the trot. They were the first team to win batting first in this IPL. Their first win came against Delhi Daredevils in the rain-hit match. Sanju Samson’s brilliant 92* against Royal Challengers Bangalore gave them their second victory of the season.

Despite the win, Royals looks vulnerable as the team. All the three pacers went for plenty. Unadkat and Ben Stokes didn’t live up to the expectations. D’Arcy Short didn’t lit up the tournament as expected.

For KKR, Russell, Uthappa and Rana have been in a supreme form, but their openers failed to make a mark. KKR will be delighted their spinners have been able to impose themselves on the opposition, and as a result has been able to strike consistently; off the 27 wickets taken by the KKR bowlers, 16 have been by their spinners.

Sanju Samson (RR)- He finally learnt to convert starts to big knock. Two starts in two games, and a brilliant 92*.

Nitish Rana (KKR)- Blistering knocks, among the wickets, brilliant in the field. Explains Rana’s performance so far in this IPL.

Sunil Narine (KKR)- The mystery spinner somehow finds a way to rattle his opponents. He recently clinched his 100th wicket in the IPL, third overseas player to do so.

Shreyas Gopal (RR)- The young leg-spinner grabbed the opportunity with both hands, collected two wickets at an economy of 5.50.
